S-V-E-N

On Friday we had dinner at PoPo and Ojiisan's house with Auntie Michi and Youxin. PoPo and Ojiisan keep lots of wrapping paper tubes around for Sven, because he likes to pretend they are swords or lightsabers.

Sven picked up a tube and said "this says S - V - E - N - this is mine." Sure enough, when I looked at the tube later, somebody had written his name on it. Ojiisan said it looked like his handwriting.

Irregular English

Yesterday Sven found out about the irregularities of English. He pointed to a picture of 9 geese and said they were "gooses". I had to tell him that it is one goose, but many geese. At first, he tried to argue with me that it was "gooses". But when I wouldn't give up, he said it to himself a few times, as if to reinforce the lesson, then smiled. Perhaps he thinks the English language is a little bit silly.

Update: Sven is struggling this week with "Woman" and" Women." He wants to say "Womans" and I corrected him, but he doesn't hear the difference, so he looks confused.

Best Friend

Recently Sven has been talking about "best friends". We are wondering if this is a popular topic at day care. As usual, we're not sure if his interpretation of the term "best friend" is the same as ours.

Yesterday Erik went on a business trip with his co-workers Brian and Bryan. When Sven and I discussed Erik's trip, Sven said "Daddy is in California with his best friend Brian."

Then yesterday evening, Sven met a cute kid named Robbie, at the REI play structure. Robbie, who is almost 3 years old, and Sven had a great time being silly together. For example, Robbie crawled on Sven's back and they slid down the slide together. After awhile, Robbie asked his mother for a snack, so she produced a bag of gummmi snacks. Sven eyes got big and he obviously wanted one. So, Robbie's mother prompted Robbie to give one to Sven, which he did very nicely. A few minutes later Sven said "I like him. He's my best friend."

Darfa Bader scooter

I am trying another feature of Picasa/Blogger, by publishing a picture from my Picasa client. This is Sven, I mean Darfa Bader, on his Darfa Bader scooter that he got from Uncle Sven and Aunt Janet. Posted by Picasa

Monkey Cheeks

Recently we took Sven to see the new Curious George movie. Its really a very sweet film, and perfect for 3-4 year olds. In one scene, the Man with the Yellow Hat and George hug and rub cheeks together.

Sven now likes to show affection by rubbing his face against yours and calls it Monkey Cheeks. Sven also loves "family hugs" - a 3-way hug with me and Erik.
